IHG promotions: Earn bonus points and elite night credits on stays this spring
One of the most satisfying ways to earn hotel points is to leverage lucrative hotel promotions. Luckily, you can earn bonus points through several IHG promotions this spring. Plus, some members can earn bonus elite qualifying night credits that can help earn IHG elite status.
Some IHG One Rewards promotions are targeted, and all require that you register before checking out of your hotel stay. Here’s a closer look at the current IHG promotions.
2,000 bonus points every 2 nights
For stays in April and May, IHG members can earn 2,000 bonus points every two nights. You must register for this promotion before completing your first stay.
Reward nights and points-and-cash stays aren’t eligible for this promotion. You’ll need to spend more than $30 each night and book a qualifying rate (as defined by the IHG One Rewards terms and conditions) for your stay to qualify.

Triple points at select brands in the US and Mexico
For stays between March 1 and May 31, IHG members who are residents of the U.S. or Mexico can earn triple points on qualifying room nights at select brands in the U.S. and Mexico. Particularly, the brands at which you can earn triple points are Avid, Atwell Suites, Even and Garner.
You must register for this promotion before completing your stay.
For your stay to qualify for triple points, you’ll need to spend more than $30 each night and book a qualifying rate. However, reward nights and points-and-cash stays aren’t eligible for this promotion.
Triple points mean the sum of the base points from your stay, and the bonus points from this promotion will be triple the base points you’d otherwise earn. So, you’ll earn your base points as usual plus two times the base points as promotional bonus points. You’ll still earn elite status bonus points if you have IHG elite status, but these points won’t be included in the tripling calculation.

So, if you have a one-night stay qualifying stay with a room rate of $100 at an Atwell Suites property in the U.S. or Mexico, you’d earn 1,000 base points plus an additional 2,000 promotional bonus points for a total of 3,000 points if you don’t have any IHG elite status. But, if you have Platinum Elite status — which you can get as a cardholder perk of the IHG One Rewards Premier Credit Card — you’d get a 60% elite status bonus on the base points, meaning you’d earn a total of 3,600 points.

40,000 points every 4 nights at Iberostar
This IHG Iberostar promotion could suit you if you’re considering an all-inclusive vacation. You can earn 40,000 points after staying four qualifying nights at participating Iberostar Beachfront Resorts between Feb. 20 and May 20.
You must register for the promotion before the end of your stay, and you can earn up to 80,000 points through this promotion.
You’ll find Iberostar Beachfront Resorts that participate in IHG One Rewards in Brazil, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Mexico, Montenegro, Morocco and Spain. You can see the full list of participating Iberostar Beachfront Resorts on IHG’s website.
The points you earn through this promotion are on top of the points you typically earn. However, the bonus points aren’t elite-qualifying and won’t help you earn IHG elite status. Nights outside the promotional period from Feb. 20 to May 20 won’t count. Likewise, reward nights and points-and-cash stays won’t count.
TPG’s valuations peg the value of 40,000 points at about $200, so this promotion could provide a serious discount at some Iberostar properties.

Targeted promotions
IHG offers at least two targeted promotions for stays this spring. I received an email titled “Just for you: Earn Bonus Elite Night Credits” with a registration link in late March. This offer lets me earn bonus elite night credits (up to seven nights per stay) on up to three stays by May 23.
I also received an email titled “Just for you: Rack up points in no time” with a registration link in late March. This offer provides 4,000 points every four nights in April and May. Best of all, these bonus points are in addition to the 2,000 points every two nights from the previously mentioned offer.
You might have received one or more targeted promotions via email. The best way to check for IHG promotions is to open your inbox and search for email titles starting with “Just for you” from IHG.
If you received one or more emails indicating you’re eligible, you must register before completing a qualifying stay. Reward nights and points-and-cash stays usually aren’t eligible; paid stays usually need to be booked under a qualifying rate and have a total spending of more than $30 per night.

Bottom line
Two thousand points every two nights is pretty great. But if you’re targeted for double elite night credits and 4,000 points every four nights, you may need to plan some eligible IHG stays this spring.
Meanwhile, the Iberostar and Avid, Atwell Suites, Even and Garner promotions may encourage you to try these brands this spring. I’ve enjoyed my stays at Avid, Atwell Suites and Even because each brand has some unique elements, such as coworking areas at Atwell Suites, a fitness focus at Even and cross-functional lobbies at Avid. Another appealing part of these brands is that most of the properties are relatively new.
Go ahead and register for these promotions now. There’s no harm in registering and not using the promotion, but registering now also ensures you don’t forget to register later.
